By Juan Leandro
MÉXICO, May 12, 2011. - Issues related to climate change, natural disasters and bilateral economic ties, among others, will be discussed Thursday as part of the XII Cuba-Mexico Interparliamentary Meeting, underway in the Mexican city of Mérida. The Cuban delegation is headed by Ricardo Alarcón, president of the Cuban Parliament.

Speaking to local media, the MP for the Mexican Labour Party (PT), Sergio Uzeta, recalled that both countries have maintained diplomatic relations for 100 years, only interrupted during the 2005-2006 Fox administration.

He added that presently the trade and economic ties "are not at their best" because of the world financial crisis, but expressed his hopes that this meeting will inject new impetus.

Uzeta also emphasized that besides economic and international issues, Mexico and Havana share interests in climate change, natural disasters prevention, as well as in education, health, culture and sports. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
