Bolivian President Evo Morales Praises Work of Cuban Doctors

CUBA, September 3, 2011.- Bolivian president Evo Morales has praised the example of Cuba and the solidarity shown through its international medical brigades which have brought their services to his country.

During an event to acknowledge the more than 600,000 eye operations carried out by Cuban doctors as part of Operation Miracle, Morales emphasized that the Cuban medical personnel worked practically for free which meant the poor and humble could have their sight restored at no cost to them.

The Bolivian president pointed out that this medical mission also made it possible for nearly 500,000 Bolivians and citizens of neighbouring countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Peru and Paraguay to attend ophthalmic centers in remote areas.

During his speech, Morales paid tribute to the Cuban professionals for carrying out this work without material reward away from family and friends and said that they were a credit to their country and the Cuban Revolution. He also acknowledged the role played by Commander of the Revolution Fidel Castro who set up the international medical mission Operation Miracle. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
