Tribute to Jose Marti in Sri Lanka
SRI LANKA. January 26th, 2012.- The Sri Lanka National Committee for Solidarity with Cuba and Cuban Embassy in Colombo jointly screened the last film inspired on the life of José Marti , National Hero of Cuba on Monday 23rd at the National Institute of Sinhala Culture on the occasion of the 159 anniversary of his birth. The movie The Eye of the Canary directed by the Cuban Fernando Perez was exhibited at the inauguration of the film shows that was held on 23, 24 and 25 here. The presentation was inaugurated by Honorable Minister of Petroleum Industries Susil Premayantha, the Cuban Ambassador Nirsia Castro Guevara and the chairman of the National Committee of Solidarity with Cuba, Jayatilleke de Silva.
At the opening, the Cuban Ambassador told the audience that the Embassy had decided to start the show with this film as an homage to Jose Marti as his 159th birth anniversary is celebrated on 28th of January. The diplomat explained that the Director of the film concatenated true events recorded by history, life and work of Marti to produce a film, though fictional, gives a touching vision of his life during the young age. The Ambassador added that the movie try to depict the forging of the character of Marti and the difficulties he faced since very early years because his patriotic and revolutionary ideas. The Ambassador concluded calling the audience to try to learn more about the life of one of the greatest man of American history of XIX Century. (Cubaminrex- Embacuba Sri Lanka)
