US Congress Admits Failure of Anti-Cuba Radio and TV Stations
CUBA, May 4, 2010. The US Congress said in a recently issued report that Radio and TV Marti stations, both financed by the American government to encourage subversion in Cuba, must undergo an overall reform to guarantee their survival.
The document issued by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, led by Senator John Kerry, says the two stations’ have hade several flaws since the very moment they were founded. It highlights that they failed to adhere to traditional journalists standards, have a small audience size and don’t have the support of the Congress, reported Granma newspaper.
When presenting the report, Senator Kerry said it was very disappointing that after 18 years Radio and TV Marti have failed to penetrate the Cuban society or influence the Cuban government.
Radio Marti, created in 1983 and television station, 1990, violate the general principles of the international law and those of the mass media established by regulations of the International Telecommunication Union. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
