USA and Human Rights: To Assassinate Fidel Castro

CUBA, Mar 22, 2010. -  The United States and its allies, in their media campaign against Cuba, have declared themselves human life defenders, the Cubans recall among other things that the 640 attempts to assassinate Fidel Castro deny it.

It is no secret that unusual number of failed attempts against the live of a country's leader was part of the official strategy drew up by top US authorities and whose instrumentation was ordered to intelligence and spying agencies.

We have recalled these days the 50th anniversary of the Executive Order signed by former US President Dwight Eusenhower in March 1960, approving covert operations aimed at overthrowing the Cuban government, among which terrorist attacks and the project to eliminate physically Fidel Castro have always shone.

Declassified or semi-declassified documents by the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) files, detainees' confessions in attempts to commit the facts or those that ventured the Bay of Pigs invasion, revealing parliamentary hearings, and half a dozen of films revealing such plans are the best available evidences.

The unusual variety of forms to eliminate the Cuban Revolution leader could seem fabulous elements if they would not be concrete actions approved at the top US level.

From trying to poison Fidel Castro during the consumption of food or a cigar, to buy the betrayal of that who would shoot him during an act held at the Havana University, among other forms of assassination, were unsuccessful attempts by the efficiency of the Cuban State Security.

Plots to achieve that objective abroad were extremely dangerous, and unsuccessful authors were protected by US organizations in charge of such assassination projects.

One of the latest ones was that orchestrated in Panama, on the occasion of the celebration of the Pan-American Summit of Heads of States and Government, frustrated by the Cuban accusation and of being put into practice, the blowing up of the University auditorium where Fidel Castro would talk in front of a crowd of students would have cost innumerable lives.

It is easy for the Cubans to identify them now as the same that lead the media campaign on Cuba, and proclaim themselves human rights activities, accompanied by those who never lifted a finger to condemn this kind of State terrorism against the Caribbean nation.
