FELAP Condemns Closing of Cubadebate’s Channel on Youtube

CUBA, January 19th, 2011.- The Cuban Association of Journalists (UPEC) published a statement recently issued by the Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP) condemning the closing of CUBADEBATE’s link on Youtube.

The statement by FELAP states: The Latin American Federation of Journalists (FELAP) informs all of its members that the organization has joined the claim for the full re-establishment of Cubadebate, censured by Youtube-Google, in what clearly is a new censure against Cuba and its Revolution.

Meanwhile, a permanent flow of information is allowed to the Miami mafia, to all those attacking Cuba and particularly to terrorists like Luis Posada Carriles. FELAP repudiates the new aggression against Cubadebate and calls for an end to the pressures, blackmails and slanders aimed at undermining the struggle of a whole people, such as the Cuban people, that is determined to defend its sovereignty.

In related news, investors in Google warn about the consequences of its censuring of Cubadebate. I MONI DEILI, a finance website, stated that ¨Last week, the Youtube account of Cubadebate was blocked by Google, which alleqes a copyright violation of the author on Cubadebate as the reason for the disconnection of the link, which caused the current controversy. This economic site reviewed declarations of Cubadebate´s editor, Rosa Mirian Elizalde, who asserted that if Cubadebate were violating copyrights, then Google would need to shut down all of Youtube, which is the mecca of internet piracy.

I MONI DEILI stated ¨If you think this is a good time to make an investment in Google, you should be sure you know the price to pay,¨ in reference to the possible loss of trust that is generated by these types of actions. (Cubamnirex-RHC)
