Manu Chao and Cuban Singers Dedicate Concert to Che Guevara
CUBA, October 10, 2009. Popular singer Manu Chao held a concert Friday night on the staircase of the University of Havana, dedicated to the 42nd anniversary of the assassination of Che Guevara.
More than 20,000 people attended to the concert, bringing flags from different nations and singing to many of the songs played by Manu Chao and other local musicians from the Nueva Trova movement who shared the stage with the singer.
Joining Manu Chao were Cuban singers Kelvis Ochoa, Adrian Berazain, Diana Fuentes, Fernando Becquer and Tony Avila.
Artists from Cuba and around the world painted a giant mural in four panels set next to the stage in the staircase of the University of Havana, in honor of Che Guevara.
This was the first of two concerts Manu Chao is giving in Cuba in homage to Argentinean-Cuban revolutionary Che Guevara.
Singer-songwriter Kelvis Ochoa spoke to ACN about the joy of playing with a musician of the caliber of Manu Chao in a venue so steeped in history like the staircase of the University of Havana.
Mano Chao will perform on Monday, October 12 in the Augusto Cesar Sandino Stadium in the city of Santa Clara, where he will share the stage with several local artists.(Cubaminrex- ACN)
