Angolans Benefit from Cuban Medical Collaboration

Cuba, Dec 23 In barely two years, thousands of Angolans have fully or partially recovered their sight thanks to the opening of an eye clinic in the province of Benguela with
the Cuban support.

A group of 37 experts from the island and 29 from Angola are working in the ophthalmologic center that was opened in the South of the African country as part of the Cuba-Venezuela led Operation Miracle.

From April 2008 until December 18, more than 10,000 eye surgeries were performed in the clinic and more than 165,000 patients received medical attention that included when required laboratory tests, optometry studies and electrocardiograms, Prensa Latina reported.

The clinic director’s Aniet Reyes Carvajal said the clinic provided services to people from all 18 provinces of Angola, though the largest number came from Benguela, Luanda, Kuanza Sul and Huila. (cubaminrex - acn)
