Cuba
and Venezuela Contribute to Struggle against Malaria in Africa

CUBA, March 24, 2010.-  The struggle against malaria in Africa is gaining momentum thanks to the contribution of Cuba and Venezuela, which have approved new actions to stop this scourge that is one of the main causes of death in this continent.

In Nigeria, during a meeting among representatives from these two countries and the Economic Community of Western African States (ECOWAS), they approved a new project that includes the construction of plants to produce bio-larvicides.

These plants will be built in countries of this African region with Venezuelan financing and Cuban technology.

In order to coordinate efforts in this regard, a delegation from the Havana-based Pharmaceutical Biological Laboratories (LABIOFAM) arrived in Tanzania at the invitation of the government of this country.

The group, headed by Dr. Pablo Hernandez, will work with the National Development Corporation, the Health and Social Welfare Ministry and the cientific Commission of Tanzania, where malaria kills more than 100,000 people every year. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
