Cuban Cooperation in Education Praised in the Bahamas

CUBA, August 19, 2010.-  Lynden Pindling, director for Education of the Bahamas, expressed in Nassau his satisfaction for the work of Cuban pedagogues in his country.

While welcoming the new group of Cuban teachers, Pindling said that parents of students in many schools of these Caribbean islands have asked for this cooperation to continue, which began in 2003.

Part of the Felix Varela Brigade, these professors will replace the colleagues that concluded their three-year mission in July, the Prensa Latina news agency reports.

Cuba’s ambassador to that nation, Jose Luis Ponce, said that the newcomers have the challenge of matching the excellent work performed by their predecessors, and reiterated his country’s commitment to continue increasing its cooperation with the Bahamas.

Over the last seven years, some 80 Cuban educators have given classes in 25 schools of these islands’ public system.

Several youngsters from the Bahamas are studying at higher education centers in Cuba, in the specialties of Medicine, Education and Engineering.
