Ecuadorian President Honors Cuba and Emphasizes Friendship between the Two Countries.
ECUADOR , August 24, 2010.- Ecuador recognized the help from Cuba in areas of health, education, and sports, and praised distinct government officials and the ambassador of Cuba to Ecuador, Benigno Pérez, who has held his position for five years.
Ecuadoran President, Rafael Correa, awarded the Cuban diplomat with the Vázquez Honorary National Order, and the Ecuadorian minister of health, David Chiriboga, gave him the Merit Insignia.
The Ecuadorian President said that the friendship between Cuba and Ecuador is important during the era in which Ecuador is focusing on improving the inequalities of the country. He also said that his country will always be against the imperialist blockade of the United States against Cuba and will support the freedom of the Cuban Five.
More than 200 Cuban doctors have participated in the Manuela Espejo mission, helping 212, 994 people with some kind of disability; around 150 Cuban sports trainers have worked in Ecuador, and 2,000 Ecuadorian students have been given scholarships to study in Cuba. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
