India Proves Efficiency of Cuban Health Model.

CUBA, December 13th, 2010.- Cuban ambassador to India, Miguel Angel Ramirez, visited on Monday a policlinic on the southern state of Kerala.

Ramirez corroborated the proper functioning of a pilot program in Trivandrum, based in Cuba’s health model. The physicians of the institution assist specific communities with the support of nurses and social workers, reports Prensa Latina news agency.

The direction of the policlinic noted that patients are sent to this center in accordance with a daily chronogram arranged by medical specialities.

The institution adds that every patient has a medical history, which is included in a computerized database. The center operates according to the same parameters established in Cuba; they organize prevention and immunization campaigns and assist high risks patients.

Ever since the creation of this center, all the population health pointers have improved; expenses and remissions have been reduced considering that patients are assisted at root levels by family doctors.

Ramirez pointed out that the results attained are encouraging and the program is beginning to expand throughout the state with the support of the communities’ popular councils.

The Cuban health model was introduced in Kerala, after Health Minister P K Sreemathi Teacher visited Cuba by the end of 2008.

During her stay in Cuba, she visited several institutions and received the necessary information to implement this model.

Kerala shows the best health pointers in India, with a child mortality rate similar to many developed countries. (Cubaminrex- Cuban News Agency)
