Mexican Governor Commends Quality of Cuban Sportspeople.
CUBA, January 20th, 2011.- Governor of Jalisco, Mexico, Emilio Gonzalez Marquez, said the quality of the upcoming 16th Pan American Games of Guadalajara will be guaranteed by the participation of Cuban sportspeople.
Spanish news agency EFE quoted Gonzalez Marquez as saying on Wednesday that the high quality of competitions is assured as Cuba will be sending its best sportspeople.
Gonzalez Marquez noted that for that reason other participating countries like United States, Mexico or Brazil will have to send their best teams to the games if they want to achieve positive results at the regional event.
The governor also pointed that that Guadalajara Pan American Games will take place less than one year before London 2012 Olympic Games and all countries of the American continent will be eager to show off their competitors.
Regarding the possibilities of his country in the medal table, Gonzalez Marquez said Mexico has to fight for the third place because it is the host country. He said it is hard for his country to beat the U.S. but it could surprise any other country.
Cuba’s best performance in Pan American Games was achieved in Havana 91, when the island pushed the Americans down to the second place.
Cuba ended second in Cali 71, Mexico 75, San Juan 79, Caracas 83, Indianapolis 87, Mar del Plata 95, Winnipeg 99, Santo Domingo 03 and Rio de Janeiro 07.
