Paraguay to Implement Cuban Literacy Program.
CUBA, August 31st, 2011.- The National Literacy Campaign based on the Cuban literacy teaching program Yes I can was launched Tuesday in Asuncion with the participation of Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo.
In a meeting at the Cristo Solidario Community Center of Bañado Sur, in the outskirts of Asuncion, community leaders and facilitators from Bañados Norte and Sur played videos about the literacy process. Marta Ramos, who is in charge of the program in Paraguay, said just one month after the beginning of the program, there has been an avalanche of interested people. Ramos said the method has been very well received and is implemented by highly skilled technicians. She thanked Cuban specialists for their cooperation in the training of teachers and the application of the method. She said the program is being implemented appropriately and people enjoy it, making the process easier.
The goal for this year is for 30,000 people from the southern departments of Itapua and Misiones and Bañados Norte and Sur of Asuncion to learn to read and write. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
