Praises Cuban Drug Benefit.

SAINT LUCIA, Jauary 31th, 2011.- The Minister of Health of St. Lucia Keith Mondesir praised the results of treatment with Cuban drug Heberprot-P, in several diabetic patients with ulcers in the lower extremities.

  Mondesir categorized the drug as miraculous, reporting on its recent application by a medical team of St. Lucia to nine people affected by severe injuries in legs and feet.

He explained that after three weeks of treatment, all cases showed the restoration of tissues and effective wound healing, which has prevented amputation and reduced pain.

Heberprot-P, the only effective drug against complex diabetic foot ulcers, has also been applied successfully to more than 12,500 patients from Venezuela, Algeria, Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, Dominican Republic, Mexico and other countries.

It is considered one of the most important scientific achievements of Cuba in 2009 in the fields of biotechnology and pharmaceuticals.

According to various international bodies, about 350 million people worldwide have diabetes, a figure that could rise to 450 million by 2025.

Between 15 and 35 percent of that estimate will develop foot ulcers at some point in their lives. (Cubaminrex-PL)
