Cuba and Venezuela Strengthen Bilateral Cooperation against Media Smear Campaigns.
CUBA, March 10, 2011.- Cuba’s Deputy Foreign Minister Ana Teresita Gonzalez and her Venezuelan counterpart for Latin America and the Caribbean, Jacqueline Mendoza, highlighted on Wednesday the achievements on bilateral cooperation to face media smear campaigns against the two nations, Prensa Latina news agency reports.
The Cuban diplomat spoke of the significance of the first of several meetings held with Venezuelan representatives in Caracas, regarding information and communications, considering that nowadays both countries are under the attack of the international mainstream media.
Gonzalez told Prensa Latina that the Cuban and Venezuelan realities are distorted and manipulated, and frequently ignored by the media.
She said that, during her stay in Caracas, she will carry out a wide program of visits and talks with representatives of the Venezuelan press and other institutions like the Venezuelan Ministry of Communications and Information.
Gonzalez, who offered a lecture on Tuesday on Cuba’s current policy at the Pedro Gual Institute of High Diplomatic Studies (IAEDPG), stated that both countries have to unite in the struggle against these kinds of media smear campaigns.
The Cuban official stressed the need to spread information on the benefits of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of the Americas (ALBA) and its potential in terms of economic and social integration.
The Venezuelan diplomat also insisted on the importance of getting together to face the systematic media attacks that aim at discrediting the social, economic and political achievements of both nations.
The head of the Office of Communication and Inter-institutional Relations of the Venezuelan Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Edgar Padron; and ALBA’s executive secretary Amenothep Zambrano, were also present in the meeting, held in the Casa Amarilla, the headquarters of the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry.
