Health Minister of Jamaica thanks cooperation offered by Cuba.
JAMAICA, April 14, 2011.- Late last month of March, the graduation ceremony of 25 Jamaican nurses, including those who in January received a Nephrology training course at the University of Medical Sciences of Camaguey, Cuba, was held in Kingston.
In this important ceremony, held at the Terra Nova Hotel, in the heart of New Kingston, took the floor: the Ministry of Health, Rudyard Spencer, other high-ranking officials of the aforesaid Ministry and Cuban Ambassador Yuri Gala Lopez. Relatives of the aforementioned nurses as well as other representatives of the health system and the Head of the Cuban Medical Brigade in Jamaica, Dr. Caridad Carbo, were also present.
In his address, Minister Spencer made several references to Cuba when mentioning the bilateral projects in terms of human resources. In this context, Spencer praised the Government and the people of Cuba for the commitment shown by increasing the availability of human resources in Jamaica’s health system; and recalled that last February, 35 Cuban nurses arrived in Jamaica and that 16 others will join the medical brigade very soon. Likewise, he thanked Cuba for having trained a group of Jamaican nurses and also for the support to be offered in terms of medical equipment repair with the assistance of Cuban specialists.
