Manuela Espejo Mission Continues in Ecuadorian Province of Manabí.
CUBA, April 20th, 2011.- The ¨Manuela Espejo¨ Solidarity Mission is located in the Ecuadorian province of Manabí, in its second phase of the program to deliver technical aide and equipment to people with disabilities. In 2009, the Ecuadorian doctors and collaborating Cuban specialists identified 27,723 people with disabilities in this region.
Between April 19th and July 2nd, the brigades will again travel through the 22 municipalities of the province, donating 43,269 pieces of technical equipment to the people who require it to improve their quality of life, according to the first phase of the study. Some of this equipment includes specialized mattresses, wheelchairs, prosthesis, and hearing aides. They brigade also plans to equip 112 houses and give away 800 vouchers with a value of $240 per month to assist low-income people with disabilities. In addition to delivering the equipment, the brigade will also do follow-up surveys to the first phase to identify and diagnose people with disabilities.
