Work of Revolution Leader Fidel Castro Acknowledged by the Cuban Sports Movement CUBA, February 23, 2010. A certificate acknowledging the work of Revolution leader Fidel Castro was sent to him on Tuesday by the Cuban sports movement, on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Cuban Sports Institute (INDER). “For his decisive and enthusiastic contribution to the development of sports, physical education and recreation”, reads the certificate, received by Jose Ramon Fernandez, Vice-president of the Council of Ministers and President of the Cuban Olympic Committee during a ceremony held at Havana’s Sports City. The scroll, signed by the President of the Cuban Sports Institute, Cristian Jimenez, also brings to mind Fidel’s relevant idea of creating the National Commission for the Attention of Athletes. During his address to participants in the ceremony, Jimenez said that this was a good opportunity to acknowledge the good work and attitude of athletes and trainers who face limitations with dedication and commitment, in order to pave the way for good results. It’s our job to fight and win battles without giving up our principles, doing what it’s right in every moment, he affirmed. Reality makes being more rational and efficient an imperative, without giving up the optimism and spirit of struggle characterizing the Cuban sports movement, he stressed. During the ceremony, Cuban Sports Institute workers Mercedes Caña, Barbaro Pagola, Maricela Tamayo, Raman Aji and Enrique Tio, were presented with the Rafael Maria de Mendive award, given by the National Trade Union for Education, Science and Sports. Another group of workers, representing those accumulating 30 years in this sector, was also the object of recognition. (Cubaminrex- ACN) |
