Fidel Castro Described as World Best Representative of Solidarity CUBA, December 29, 2010.- President of the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP) Kenia Serrano dubbed Cuban Revolution leader Fidel Castro the world leader on solidarity at a ceremony to mark the 50 anniversary of that institution. In a ceremony presided over by Cuban Vice-President Esteban Lazo and Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon, Serrano went over the history of ICAP and its founders. “It is a privilege to keep counting, in this 50 anniversary, on many that gave life to ICAP, especially the undisputable leader of this Solidarity movement, Commander in Chief Fidel Castro” she said. ICAP was founded on December 30, 1960 and it is a proof of the friendship we give and receive, she added. She recalled late ICAP president Sergio Corrieri who ran the institution from 1990 till his death in 2008. Serrano spoke of the regional meetings ICAP had in Asia, Europe and Sub-Saharan Africa with representatives from 63 countries while in another 36 people held meetings of solidarity with Cuba. Parliament President Alarcon said that Cuba is making needed adjustments to its Socialism to make it more close to the countries reality, changing everything that needs to be changed to make it better. Alarcon stressed that the new generations, in charge of updating the Cuban model have the strengths to lead this process. He also said that Cuban doctors and teachers helping other countries throughout the world show that solidarity remains among the priorities for Cuba. Also attending the ceremony were Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez and the daughter of legendary Argentinean-Cuban guerrilla Che Guevara, Aleida Guevara March. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency) |
