New Cuban Ministers for Sugar and Agriculture

CUBA, November 26, 2008. On a proposal from the Political Bureau of the Communist Party, the Cuban Council of State appointed Ulises Rosales del Toro, current minister of the Sugar Industry, to the post of Minister of Agriculture, for his leadership experience and political authority, says the official note published today by Granma daily.

The need to promote agricultural production, a strategic activity of the country, supported the designation of Rosales, while Maria del Carmen Perez, relieved from the post of first deputy Minister of Agriculture was recognized for her efforts as Interim Minister.

The second change announced was to promote current deputy Minister of the Sugar Industry, Luis Manuel Avila to Minister of that branch. Avila is Agronomic Engineer by profession and has 38-year experience in the industry.

During the next six months. lands planted with other crops other than sugar cane will be transferred to the Ministry of Agriculture, concludes the official note.
