African Diplomats Reject Anti-Cuba Resolution Passed by European Parliament
CUBA, Apr 13, 2010. - The ambassador of the Republic of Congo to Cuba, Pascal Onguemby, rejected the lies included in an anti-Cuba resolution recently approved by the European Parliament.
Addressing participants in the inauguration of the Eleventh International Conference on African Culture in the Americas that began today in Santiago de Cuba, the African diplomat spoke on behalf of the ambassadors from Burkina Faso, Cape Verde and Mozambique, as well as the cultural attaché from Angola.
Onguemby noted that, in spite of US pressure, Africa supports and defends Cuba as a token of gratitude for the island’s altruistic and historic solidarity and cooperation.
“We also raise our voices for the unconditional release of the five Cuban antiterrorists unjustly imprisoned in the United States,” he added.
“This is a very important year for us because many of our countries in Africa celebrate the 50th anniversary of their independence and because Senegal decided to eliminate foreign military bases from its territory,” Onguemby said.
The international event will take place until Friday and, among other topics, participants will analyze the influence of African culture in Cuba and the Americas as well as current challenges faced by Africa. (Cubaminrex - acn)
