No surrender, no coercion
CUBA, April 12, 2010."Here nobody surrenders…," the historic words of Commander of the Revolution Juan Almeida Bosque gave the appropriate note to the Concert for the Homeland in Havana’s José Martí Anti-Imperialist Tribunal.
The great son performer and improviser Cándido Fabré took Almeida’s words for his "Between bullets and songs" and thus highlighted the spirit of the protest of Cuban culture against slander and lies.
Fabré added another forceful number with a chorus that says, "Those who are not of Raúl, are not of Fidel" to confirm the indissoluble unity between artists and the people in defense of their Revolution.
Meanwhile, in Santiago de Cuba, the Original de Manzanillo group sang "Pull out the thorn," one of the band’s recent popular and dedicated in Saturday’s concert to those who cannot stand the fact that the Revolution is still alive after 50-plus years.
"Cuba is a thorn in the side of the empire, it pains them that we are still on our feet and fighting," one of the singers affirmed before the number was played and a great public choir chanted the choruses, in a combination of national and musical solidity.
These were two expressions among many that demonstrated the upright principals of our people and the identification of the Cuban artistic and intellectual movement with the Revolution and the homeland.
Silvio moved the audience at the Anti-imperialist Tribunal with the force of his songs, those which have always been on the side of the Revolution, that have condemned like a sword blade everything that offends it. The New Trova singer-songwriter put the acute question, "If this government has been so bad, where have these great people come from?"
The author of Segunda cita stated that if there was a little more respect for essential concepts like "Homeland, universe, life," the world would be a better place. But it was not only Silvio’s voice that was heard on this occasion. He was joined in song by poets, artists and intellectuals to portray the island from its art.
With these concerts, a message was written for the homeland from Havana’s José Martí Anti-imperialist Tribunal and from Santiago de Cuba’s 26th of July Ciudad Escolar, where thousands of Cubans accompanied every word and every note on a Saturday to be remembered.
