Statement of the Communist Party of Sweden

SWEDEN, March 29, 2010. -

Comrades!

In connection with the renewed imperialist propaganda related to the death of Orlando Zapata Tomayo we would like to reaffirm our friendship and solidarity with the people, the government and the Communist Party of Cuba in the struggle for socialism.

The hypocrisy of the imperialist propaganda is reflected by the fact that about 100,000 citizens of the United States of America die premature deaths every year because they cannot afford to pay for adequate medical care. The so-called international community has nothing to say in this respect.

Orlando Zapata Tomayo starved himself to death voluntarily. But the 13 million children in the United States of America who face hunger and food insecurity every day of the year do not do so voluntarily. Nor do they receive food packages from the rulers of the European Union.

The 36 million people who die world-wide every year of hunger and hunger-related illnesses according to UNICEF do not commit suicide. They die because they are deprived of nourishment in a world that produces enough to feed everyone on the planet on a daily basis, according to the UN Food and Agricultural Organization.

The death of Orlando Zapata Tomayo is regrettable, but no blame can be assigned to Cuba. However, blame can be assigned to the same imperialist forces that are waging an undeclared war on all humanity.

The Communist Party of Sweden (SKP) has always supported the Cuban Revolution, and will continue to do so. Our friendship and solidarity with the people of Cuba is unshakeable.

Yours for socialism,

International Committee
Communist Party of Sweden (SKP)
