More Rejection of Western Media Cuba Bashing Drive
SPAIN, April 7th, 2010. Veteran Spanish communist leader Santiago Carrillo today blamed the United States for preventing Cuba from developing as a result of a long-standing blockade that’s now nearing its half century, EFE news agency reported.
Speaking with the press on Tuesday during the presentation of his latest book, Los viejos camaradas (The old comrades), the seasoned politician and writer stressed he has always defended the Cuban Revolution.
In connection with the death of a common prisoner in Cuba [following a hunger strike], the former leader of the Communist Party of Spain (PCE) drew attention to the fact that thousands of innocent civilians die every day without the media causing a fury over it. "They regard that as normal, they don’t make a scandal of it," he charged.
Meanwhile, in Montevideo, city council candidate Eduardo Rubio condemned the new media campaign against Cuba, certainly orchestrated, he said, by U.S. imperialism.
"We must defend Cuba against what is clearly a despicable bashing campaign," Rubio told Prensa Latina in the Uruguayan capital. This is an attack, he said, that is also directed against Venezuela and Bolivia, and in general against revolutionary governments, which are in the crosshairs of imperialism.
Rubio recalled that, historically, U.S. governments have dreamed of bringing the Cuban Revolution to an end, even though they are aware that Cuba does not pose a military threat or danger to U.S. national security.(Cubaminrex- Granma)
