CONFIDENCE in the Cuban market and opposition to the U.S. government’s policy of blockade against Cuba have been once again manifested by the broad participation of businesses from 42 countries at the 23rd Havana Trade Fair, according to Abraham Maciques, president of the FIHAV ’05 organizing committee, speaking to Granma daily. The fair officially opens at the EXPOCUBA facilities on Monday, October 31 and will continue until Saturday, November 5.

The fair, he said, has played a very important role in the growth of Cuban export and import companies, and is a propitious venue for cooperative production and the signing of joint venture projects, as well as a place for professionals to have contact with new technologies.

With the presence of more than 1,800 foreign and Cuban companies that have rented some 14,000 cubic meters of space, the fair features pavilions sponsored by the governments of 10 countries and another five via trade advocacy organizations; a dozen nations are being represented by ministers, deputy ministers or presidents of their chambers of commerce.

During the week, each day will highlight the following countries: Spain, Canada, Venezuela, Mexico, France, Brazil, Germany and the People’s Republic of China. Gold medals in various categories will be awarded on Thursday at the International Conference Center.

Professional visits may be made Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Today, Monday, October 31, they begin at 2 p.m. On Friday afternoon and Saturday, FIHAV ’05 will be open to the public at EXPOCUBA via invitations distributed by the mass organizations or by paying an entrance fee in Cuban pesos
