Higher Education for All
CUBA, February 9, 2008.- "University 2008," the sixth International Conference on Higher Education, will take place in Havana from February 11 through 15.
Experts from 75 countries will discuss problems linked to the quality and availability of higher education for all. Some 1,000 Cuban delegates from all over the country and 2,500 foreign delegates have confirmed their participation. The largest delegations are expected from Venezuela, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Spain, Italy and Cuba.
Among the participants attending the meeting are George Haddad, director of UNESCO's Higher Education Division; outstanding Brazilian intellectual Frei Betto; and American lawyer Cindy O'Hara, an activist advocating the release of the Cuban Five- a group of five Cuban men unjustly imprisoned in US jails for fighting terrorism.
The workshops, conferences, discussion panels, and presentations will focus on universities of the 21st century and their role, as well as on improvements in social inclusion and expanding participation in higher education programs.
