International Book Fair Begins in Havana

CUBA, February 14, 2008.- The International Book Fair "Cuba 2008" opened its doors to the public on Thursday at Havana's Moro-Cabaña Fortress.

Day one of the book fair will be intense with book presentations and a special concert by Cuban singer/songwriter Polito Ibañez.

The organizing committee postponed the inauguration scheduled for Wednesday due to weather conditions.

The International Book Fair will be dedicated to Cuban writers Graziella Pogolotti and Anton Arrufut and Galician Culture will be the special guest of honor.

The academic program will begin with a master conference by Galician writer Ramon Villares and Cuban Miguel Barnet, 1994 National Literature Prize winner.

The Galician delegation at the book fair will donate several titles to Cuban libraries including 16 Galician poems for Ernesto Che Guevara by Elias Torres and Avilés de Taramancos.

Among some of the books that will be presented are Pombo by Harry Villegas; Complete Volumes of Jose Marti; and Nicaragua "The Eye of a Revolutionary Hurricane" by Irma Antongnazzi and Maria Felisa Lemos. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
