Cuban Aid to Literacy Teaching in the World Highlighted.

CUBA, January 25th, 2011.- Education Minister Ena Elsa Velázquez highlighted in Pedagogy 2011 that the island’s educators have contributed to teach over five million people in the world how to read and write.

At present, Cuban education professionals are using in 28 nations the Yes I Can and Yes I Can Continue programs, which offer the real possibility –in a relatively short period of time-of satisfying educational needs, she added.

In this regard, Pedro Vicente Rodriguez, Venezuela’s Deputy Minister of Popular Power for Education, underlined on Tuesday at Havana’s Convention Center –the meeting’ venue- the successful implementation of these educational methods in his country.

Thanks to Cuban support, more than one million 700,000 Venezuelans have learned how to read and write, and some 15,000 teachers of primary, secondary and special education have been trained, he pointed out.

Ten years after the signing of the Cuba-Venezuela Comprehensive Cooperation Agreement, we celebrate the leading role played by the two nations in the literacy campaigns carried out in Bolivia, Nicaragua and Ecuador, he stated.

With the creation in 1998 of the Yes I Can educational method, Cuba boosted its
pedagogical support for other countries in the world, a process of solidarity that dates back to the first years of the Revolution and characterizes the Caribbean island's international policy. (Cubaminrex - ACN)
