Omara Portuondo will Perform on Thursday in Mexico

CUBA, February 8, 2010. Omara Portuondo will present next Thursday in Mexico her latest album “Gracias” (Thanks), which earned her a Latin Grammy Award in the category of best contemporary tropical album.

The diva of the Buena Vista Social Club will perform at the Metropolitan theater in Mexico City, before beginning a tour throughout U.S. cities and Europe.

In an interview over the phone with La Jornada newspaper, the singer said that this work shows her gratitude to the public and musicians who have supported her for over six decades of artistic life.

Omara, also known as the 'Girlfriend of Filin', said “Gracias” is a special gift: a selection of her greatest hits that have marked her career, the Mexican newspaper reported.

The 79 year-old singer, the first Cuban artist living in the island to attend an awards ceremony in the U.S., will take the Met stage accompanied by Cuban and Brazilian musicians such as Swami Junior, Omar Gonzalez, Roberto Fonseca, Rodney Barreto and Andres Coayo. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
