Cuba Expects to Receive over 2.3 Million Tourists by Year’s End
CUBA, September 17, 2009. Cuban Deputy Tourism Minister Alexis Trujillo predicted a good year for the economic sector after describing as positive the increase in the number of visitors to the island, which translated into a 2.9 percent growth with respect to last year.
By the end of 2009, the total figure of visitors will be well over 2.3 millions thanks to promotional actions undertaken by the Tourism Ministry (MINTUR), said Trujillo, who stressed the ongoing diversification of the country´s tourist product.
During the opening of the 7th Encounter on Nature Tourism, at the Zapata Peninsula, located in central Cuba some 180 kilometers from the capital Havana, the deputy minister pointed out that the Caribbean island offers not only its sun and beaches, but also other tourist attractions of important values.
The Nature Tourism Encounter has seen the participation of experts from more than 14 countries, including tour operators, journalists and other experts, who are interested in promoting the values of the Zapata Swamp, considered the largest Caribbean marsh. (Cubaminrex- RHC)
