Raul Castro Congratulates Staff at Havana’s Convention Center

CUBA, September 5, 2009. Cuban President Raul Castro congratulated the workers of Havana’s Convention Center on Friday, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the institution.

On the letter, read during the ceremony to mark the date, Raul acknowledges the results obtained by the Center over the last three decades, the fruit of the self-sacrificing effort of its staff, which has carried out a high quality work.

The document adds that the workers have diversified their functions, thus increasing the national and international prestige the specialized institution has in the organization and celebration of congresses and seminars.

During the ceremony, certificates were sent to Raul and Revolution leader Fidel Castro, in recognition of the support they have given the Center since its founding, as well as for their permanent presence in the institution and their confidence in its staff.

Computing and Communications Minister Ramiro Valdes gave the Center’s director, Abraham Maciques, a picture signed by Raul, in recognition of his work as head of this institution, his revolutionary commitment and his high professionalism at the service of the most noble ideas.

A group of 13 workers also received certificates acknowledging their good work.

Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon was in charge of the closing speech, during which he recalled that the Convention Center symbolizes the figure of late Celia Sanchez, the architect of this colossal work.

Also present in the ceremony were the head of Havana’s Carlos J. Finlay Institute, Concepcion Campa, and the general secretary of the Confederation of Cuban Workers, Salvador Valdes, as well as other leaders from the Council of State and the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party, among other organizations and institutions.
