The outgoing attorney general, Juan Escalona Reguera, spoke at the ceremony, saying that he felt very emotional about finishing a stage in his life to which he had dedicated close to half a century. He added that any achievement made during his 17 years as attorney general was thanks to his collective which he said became a real family. "I am not retiring today, but simply changing duties. I will continue to guide myself with the spirit of a solider of the Revolution."
Darío Delgado Cura said that he felt honored for the trust placed in him and for being able to follow in the steps of someone such as Escalona Reguera whom he called an example of the Cuban legal system and a revolutionary.
In a brief address, Raul Castro said that the priority given by the Cuban Council of State to the offices and agencies of the attorney general and comptroller general, and to the courts are part of government efforts to further empower these institutions to more efficiently deal with crime and to strengthen laws and government.
