Cuba Celebrates 25 Anniversary of the House of Africa.
CUBA, 21st, December 2010.- Cuba will celebrate the 25th anniversary of the foundation of the House of Africa at the 15th Workshop on Afro-American Social and Cultural Anthropology, scheduled for January 2 - 5, 2011.
The director of this institution, Alberto Granado Duque, announced that on January 6, they will open new restored rooms with collections that have never be exhibited, which are part of the presents of African authorities given to Cuban personalities.
Granado noted that this workshop combines the academic part with a cultural project that includes a procession on January 6, at 2 o’clock in the afternoon from the Square of Saint Francis of Assisi.
As usual, the procession will go through other known public spaces of Old Havana; and the JJ Folkloric Dance Company, the Four Winds band, and the Scorpion Krewe will participate.
On the academic part, the workshop includes conferences by the City Historian, Eusebio Leal, the art critics, Graziella Pogolotti, and the poet and anthropologist, Miguel Barnet; as well as the participation of Brazilian, Dominican, Venezuelan, Italian, and Portuguese specialists.
The program also encompasses the unveiling of a sculpture by artist Agustin Perez (Buky), with the name of Hombre carga su ganga, made out of nails with cooper filigrees, which requires very meticulous and careful work.
The 4th Festival of Afro Words Oral Narration will also take place within the context of the workshop, with guests from Brazil and Portugal.
In addition, the workshop will take its activities to the province of Matanzas and to the municipality of Santa Cruz del Norte. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
