Cuban Students Prepare for University Entrance Exams.

CUBA, 8 de mayo de 2011.- Cuban 12th grade students are preparing to take the first university admissions exams on Tuesday, for 46,341 places available.

As of May 10, students will be tested on Mathematics, History of Cuba and Spanish during this first of three rounds of exams.

Poor test results in the previous school year led school officials to boost student preparation at that level, Ministry of Education sources said.

Of the total university places available, 18,879 are for Pedagogical Sciences and 9,393 are for Medical Sciences, in line with the country’s needs, Juventud Rebelde newspaper reported.

The total number of places was not cut, but adjusted to fit the areas with the most need, the newspaper reported, noting that most university places were for science and technology studies, while the humanities were cut. (Cubaminrex-PL)
