Cuba is Ready to Fight Swine Influenza, says First Vice President
CUBA, April 30, 2009. Cuba is ready to fight the Swine Influenza, said First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura during a tour of different places in this eastern Cuban province.
In statements to reporters Machado said “We are ready,” and he pointed out that Cuba’s health system, the population’s knowledge and the preventive measures being taken are the strength that will allow the country to face the disease.
Machado Ventura assured that Cuba has the resources and the infrastructure needed in case any person could be infected and he stressed that the package of measures includes those of domestic nature and others relevant to contacts with citizens of foreign countries, which are aimed at preventing the entrance of the virus from abroad.
Machado visited several construction works underway in Santiago de Cuba, which included the rehabilitation of the city’s aqueduct, the Oriente Pharmaceutical Laboratory, the Caribe cold store and the El Brujo poultry farm.
In those places the official urged workers to boost production of goods and services, to focus on the rational use of resources, to save fuel and energy, to promote the replacement of imports and to increase or promote exports. “This is the right answer to the World economic crisis which is undoubtedly affecting us,” concluded Machado.
