China Grants Solidarity Award to Cuban Scientists

CUBA, May 20, 2010. The Changchun Solidarity Prize was awarded on Thursday to two Cuban scientists for their contribution in the development of the Chinese city of Changchun, site of an important cooperation project between both nations.

The municipality of the city of Changchun recognized the work of Drs. Luis Herrera Martinez, General Director of the Biotechnology Center and Boris Acevedo Castro, also from the Havana based institution that were present in the ceremony.

Also attending the ceremony were Lu Ming, Deputy Director of the Bureau for the Management of Foreign Experts from China´s Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security among other government officials.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Acevedo thanked the Chinese authorities for the recognition on behalf of the group that has contributed in materializing cooperation ties between the two countries.

Havana’s Biotechnology Center maintains ties with the Chinese city as part of cooperation in the sector of biotechnology. In the case of the capital of the province of Jilin, these ties include the Changchun Heber Biotechnology Ltd., joint venture that produces and commercializes advanced products. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
