Over 320,000 Cuban Youths Will Vote for the First Time in April

CUBA, February 15, 2010. More than 320,000 Cuban youths will exercise their right to vote for the first time during the upcoming partial elections scheduled for April and May to elect delegates to Municipal Assemblies.

Ruben Perez Rodriguez, VP of the National Electoral Commission, told ACN that all these young people who will vote for the first time are or will be 16 years-old – the minimum age required to vote as established by the Cuban Constitution and the Electoral Law - by April 25th when the first round of the elections takes place.

Regarding the participation of youths in the electoral process, Perez Rodriguez highlighted a larger presence of young people among the electoral authorities, including the electoral commissions.

“These elections will offer our youth another excellent opportunity to show their virtues, their public-spiritedness and their commitment to the future of Socialism,” the official stressed.

“As a generation that has the mission to preserve and give continuity to the work of the Revolution, their right to elect and be elected becomes a duty for all youths,” he added. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
