Cuban Parliament President Praises New Lay Judges.
CUBA, December 23, 2010.- Cuban Parliament President Ricardo Alarcon said he fully trusted the new 276 lay judges of the Popular Supreme Court (PSC) that start working today.
Those judges, elected in the last ordinary period of the Seventh Legislature of the National Assembly, were sworn at the Revolution Museum in Havana city by PSC president Rubén Remigio Ferro.
Preserving the law, administering justice are key elements in every society, especially in ours that has to face challenges no other has ever have, said Alarcon.
He said Cuba is in the process of updating its economic model and urged the new lay judges to defend the Revolution from their posts. “It is a great responsibility what the Cuban people has given you”
After receiving their gowns, Zarina Quintas Linares, on behalf of the new officials, said they were all proud of having this opportunity.
She said they will not let dawn the people and their performance will justify the trust laid upon them. They will reflect, she added, the democratic essence of Cuban society and will work with intelligence.
The ceremony was presided by State Council Secretary Homero Acosta Álvarez and Cuban General Attorney Darío Delgado Cura. (Cubaminrex-Cuban News Agency)
