Cuba Celebrates National Rebellion Day on July 26

CUBA, June 23, 2010. Amidst heated emotions and revelry, residents of the Cuban province of Villa Clara came out to the streets to celebrate the election of their province as national venue for the forthcoming festivities marking Cuba’s National Rebellion Day on July 26.

During a ceremony held at the Leoncio Vidal Park located in the heart of the city of Santa Clara, Provincial First Secretary of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) Julio Lima Corzo commended the hard work and perseverance of residents over the last 12 years in their efforts towards economic stability and social progress in the territory.

He noted that the province has been able to make headway in a number of areas, despite the negative impact of the international economic crisis; while stressing the need to work hard every day to increase productivity and efficiency.

Lima Corzo also congratulated the provinces of Ciego de Ávila, Ciudad de La Habana and Granma, among the Cuban territories with the most noticeable improvements countrywide over recent years.

The first secretary of the PCC’ Central Committee in Ciego de Ávila, Jorge Luis Tapia Fonseca congratulated locals for their commitment to contributing to stimulate the local economy, public services and social progress, during a ceremony that took place at the Jose Marti Park in that province.

For his part, PCC First Secretary in Granma Luis Rafael Virelles said that the province has been working tirelessly towards ensuring quality in healthcare, education and gastronomic services in the territory, as well as enhancing citizens’ military training in order to protect Cuba’s territorial integrity, during a political meeting that took place on Sunday in Bayamo, Granma.

The first secretary of the PCC in Havana, Mercedes López Acea, said that Havana’s positive strides towards territorial development are the result of the people’s hard work and dedication to defend the socialist legacy at all costs.

“We still have a lot of work to do ahead. Today, our top priority is overhauling the country’s economy by increasing production, providing quality services, making the most of available resources and being less wasteful,”  López Acea concluded.(Cubaminrex- Juventud Rebelde)
