Over One Thousand Foreign Trade Union Members in Cuba for May Day Celebrations

CUBA, April 29, 2010. More than one thousand trade union members from 32 countries are already in Cuba to participate in the May Day celebrations at Havana’s Jose Marti Revolution Square.

“Some of them belong to the Fifth World Brigade in Solidarity with Cuba while others represent 141 trade unions,” a member of the National Secretariat of the Cuban Workers’ Confederation (CTC), Alfredo Machado, told ACN.

On Wednesday, the brigade members met with relatives of Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene Gonzalez, the five Cuban antiterrorists who remain unjustly imprisoned in the United States since 1998.

A member of the Cuba-Laos Friendship Association, Thanmavath Virasdarong, told ACN that they are carrying out actions in their country, in coordination with the Cuban Friendship Institute (ICAP), to spread the truth about Cuba’s reality.

In spite of the US economic, financial and commercial blockade, the Cuban people march toward a better future,” he said.

During their stay in Cuba the visitors will tour places of social, cultural, economic and historic interest. (Cubaminrex- ACN)
