CUBA, May 17, 2011.- Cuba is celebrating on Tuesday Farmers´ Day after 52 years of the promulgation of first Agrarian Reform Law, a fact that totally changed the structure of estate in land in this country.

One of the first measures of the revolutionary process started in January 1959 was the approval of that law, which broke up large landholding with the nationalization of more than 402 hectares and redistributed them to those who worked them.

The action emphasized the U.S. hostility towards the island, as companies from that northern nation had important properties and interests in that and other sectors of the Caribbean country.

After the triumph of the Revolution, the U.S. administration drew up strategies to destroy it, an offensive that included among other aggressions the Washington-financed invasion of Playa Giron (Bay of Pigs), in the western province of Matanzas, on April 1961.

The National Association of Small Farmers (ANAP) is also celebrating today 50 years of its foundation, in times of larger productivity and efficiency.(Cubaminrex-PL)
