Cuba: Parliament Approves Guidelines of Social and Economic Policy.
CUBA, August 01, 2011.- The Cuban National Assembly (Parliament) agreed on Monday to back and approve the Guidelines of the Social and Economic Policy approved last April at the Sixth Congress of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC).
During the Seventh Ordinary Period of Sessions of the Seventh Legislature of Parliament, which takes place at Havana's Convention Center, parliamentarians unanimously agreed that this socio-economic strategy should be "an essential guiding element for the work of all bodies and officials of the Cuban State, Government, and people, in general".
The text, presented by Jose Luis Toledo Santander, president of the Standing Commission of Labor, notes that the recent PCC meeting recommended the creation of a legal and institutional basis backing the necessary economic, structural and functional modifications.
During the previous Ordinary Period of Sessions last December, parliamentarians dedicated two days of work to analyze the draft Guidelines, which led to the modification of 68% of its content. The process later continued with discussions at the provincial and municipal levels. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
