Cuban Children and Youths Mark Anniversary of Their Organizations.

CUBA, April 5, 2011.- Cuban children celebrate this April 4 a new anniversary of the Jose Marti Organization of Pioneers (OPJM-fifth and sixth graders plus secondary school students), and the fifth Congress of Pioneers (secondary school graders), while youngsters mark the anniversary of the Communist Youth League (UJC).

It will be an intense, joyful day, one of reaffirmation of commitment for children and youngsters in every school in the country, in which those with the most outstanding performance over the last year will receive the Fourth of April distinction.

The plenary session of the fifth Congress of Pioneers will take place Monday morning at the Ernesto Guevara Central Palace of Pioneers, in Havana. In the meeting, representatives from primary and secondary schools from every province of the country discussed the children’s and teenagers’ role in guaranteeing the historical continuity of the Revolution, as in spite of their young age, Cuban pioneers understand their mission of getting well prepared to get ready to lead the future of the country.

In the afternoon a political-cultural gala will take place at the Karl Marx Theater to mark the respective 50th and 49th anniversaries of the Pioneers Organization and the UJC.

The show will feature the children’s theater company "La Colmenita" and Lizt Alfonso Children’s Ballet, as well as and renowned musicians and bands like Buena Fe, Liuba Maria Hevia and Lidis Lamorú, and the performance of children from art schools and the Iberian American Center for Decimas (10-verse poems) and Improvisation.

The gala will be dedicated to the five Cuban antiterrorist fighters imprisoned in the US to whom the OPJM granted the Los zapaticos de rosa award created in 1989 by the organization on the centenary of the Jose Marti’s The Golden Age magazine. (Cubaminrex-AIN)
