Cuban Women Increase Active Role in Society.
CUBA, 19 August 2011.- Women continue to increase their vital role in the Cuban society and they currently represent 47.3% of the active labor force of the country, said on Thursday Teresa Hernandez, a member of the National Secretariat of the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC).
Speaking to Prensa Latina news agency, Hernandez pointed out that by the end of 2010 women held 40.2% of administrative posts, including leading positions ahead of ministries and presidents of important national institutions.
In recent years, hundreds of young women have joined the Women's Voluntary Military Service and, by the end of the first half of 2011, more than 60,000 had joined the ranks of the self-employed workers.
Hernandez noted that, after 51 years of its foundation, the main goals of the FMC continue to be defending the Revolution and fighting for gender equality.
The Federation of Cuban Women was founded on August 23, 1960, and it currently has more than four million members. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
