Cuba’s First VP Calls for Breaking Inertia in the Country
CUBA, July 26, 2011.- The Cuban First Vice President Jose Ramon Machado Ventura urged Cubans to break away from the mentality of inertia that permeates society in order to move forward in the construction of Socialism.
Machado delivered a keynote speech in central Ciego de Avila province, main venue of the celebrations for the National Rebelliousness Day, which commemorates the July 26th, 1953 attacks on the Moncada and Cespedes garrisons, led by Fidel Castro against the Batista dictatorship.
In his speech Machado addressed several of the main reason that prevent the country from moving ahead with the economic transformations it is implementing, which include lack of initiative and throughout assessing of available resources.
After congratulating Ciego de Avila province for having earned the right to host this event, the Cuban VP expressed that though improvements are visible, there is still much to be done, considering the Cuban people potential.
He went over the serious economic crisis worldwide that slows the country’s development, but considered that through hard work Cuba can move forward if it uses rationally its resources.
Ciego de Avila is an example of how to work to overcome the challenges, said Machado.
He also urged Cubans to comply with President Raul Castro’s instructions when summarizing the Sixth Party Congress, held last April, against any tendency to delay the implementation of measures or plans adopted by the party.
Machado lashed the red-tape that still surfaces throughout the country, slowing down the much needed changes, especially in the economic sector.
On that regard, he said it is imperative to delimit the functions of government, identify problems in each place, and act promptly to eliminate any hurdle that affects the smooth running of the economic plan
He tackled as well the present international situation, the Latin American integration efforts, and congratulated Peruvian president-elect Ollanta Humala, who visited Cuba this month.
Machado Ventura concluded forwarding a message of congratulations from Revolution leaders Fidel and Raul Castro to all Ciego de Avila inhabitants, as “protagonists of the progress made”. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
