CUBA, 27 April 2011.- Over 170 friends of Cuba coming from some 20 nations were welcomed on Monday as part of the 6th Primero de Mayo International Brigade that will participate in the rally scheduled to mark International Workers’ Day in Havana on 1 May.
Raul Abreu, director of the Julio Antonio Mella International Camp located in Artemisa province, where the group will stay until May 7, told ACN that the number of members of this Brigade will amount to 236 by May 1st.
Betty Moller, who has come to the island four times to mark International Workers’ Day and a member of the Swedish–Cuban Association in Sweden, pointed out that May Day celebrations in Cuba are among the greatest in the world, hence her wishes to experience them and share these moments with the Cuban people.
Other delegations in solidarity with Cuba, invited for the celebration by the Confederation of Cuban Workers, will join these visitors, as explained by Elio Gamez, vice-president of the Cuban Institute for Friendship with the Peoples.
He highlighted the work of the international movement in solidarity with Cuba, against the US blockade of the island and in favor of the release of the five Cuban antiterrorists unfairly incarcerated in the United States.
Gamez Neyra also thanked these friends of Cuba for their personal and economic efforts to celebrate May Day on the Caribbean island. Other cities of the country will also welcome members of foreign groups that will come to Cuba for the occasion.
