Venezuelan President Chavez Sends Message to Cuban People.
CUBA, July 26, 2011.- Hugo Chávez Frías, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, sent today a congratulatory message to the Cuban people and its top leadership on the 58th anniversary of the July 26th events, whose main event was held in this city.
“Here goes a revolutionary and socialist salute to the brother people of Cuba,” Chavez said in his note, read to more than 60 000 Ciego de Avila people attending the activity in the Maximo Gomez Revolution Square, who won for the third time in their history the opportunity to be the main venue of the celebrations for the National Rebelliousness Day.
Chavez recalled that the assault on the Moncada garrison on July 26th, 1953, marked a change in the history of Cuba. “July 26 is living history and a continuing example of dignity,” said in his statement to his counterpart Raul Castro, who presided over the activity.
He added that this action of 1953, under the direction of the Cuba Revolution leader Fidel Castro, was and remains being the greatest example in history in the revolutionary path that has marked the destiny of the people.
Chavez said that this attack embodied the courage of that group of young people who decided to take up arms to fight for national sovereignty.
Referring to the Cuban president, Chavez expressed in his note: “you staged an assault on the future,” and in that sense he quoted the verses by Raúl Gómez García, known as the poet of that generation.
“It's been 58 years since that deed which became one of the most paradigmatic of history and that it did not end until tyranny was defeated,” said Chavez.
“We have also learned how to turn setbacks into victory,” he warned and addressed the vicissitudes of the revolutionary struggle.
“Honor and glory to the martyrs of Moncada and from the heart of our people goes a big hug for you, Fidel and all the people of Cuba,” concluded the Venezuelan president. (Cubaminrex-ACN)
