Workers from all over the World to March in Cuba on May Day

CUBA, April 25, 2011.- More than 1,000 people from almost 50 countries will march alongside the Cuban people in the mass rallies to take place nationwide on May Day (International Workers Day).

Participants will demand the immediate release of the Cuban Five, political prisoners held in U.S. jails for fighting terrorism, said Ermela Garcia, member of the National Secretariat of the Central Organization of Cuban Workers, in statements t Juventud Rebelde newspaper.

Gerardo Hernandez, Ramon Labañino, Antonio Guerrero, Fernando Gonzalez and Rene González were arrested in Miami in September 1998 after infiltrating anti-Cuban organizations based in that city planning violent actions against Cuba.

May Day March organizers said the event would also back the economic and social policies recently approved by the 6th Congress of the Communist Party of Cuba, held this past week in Havana.

The main parade (in Havana) will be led by the education workers´ union, and the final bloc of marchers will be made up of youngsters. (Cubaminrex-PL-RHC)
