Celebrations in Cuba Mark Birth Anniversaries of Che Guevara and Antonio Maceo.

CUBA, June 14, 2011.- Known as the Bronze Titan and the Heroic Guerrilla -- Antonio Maceo and Che Guevara, respectively -- the two heroes are being remembered today in Cuba for their roles in the country's history.

Antonio Maceo was born on June 14, 1845, and Che Guevara was born on this date in 1928.  Both are men who, in spite of being born at different times, are linked by their courage, spirit and strong character.

Juventud Rebelde newspaper published an article today in which José Martí is quoted as saying: “There are invisible strings that link men in history” -- pointing to these two fighters born on the same date but in different centuries.

The newspaper article highlights the greatness of Che as a symbol of freedom and justice, and underlines Antonio Maceo’s revolutionary spirit in defense of his ethical principles, fighting for Cuba’s independence from Spanish colonialism. (Cubaminrex-RHC)
